a celebration, continued.

Recently, there has been a voice inside my soul constantly vying to know where my life is going. A perpetual plight of uncertainty-infused wonder... and on the days when I remember to don my rose-colored glasses, a continuous state of dreaming...

Although I knows deep down that the world is my oyster, every day I plead with the universe for a little direction; the smallest clue to help guide my future. A tiny amount of assurance that my hopes + dreams will someday come true.  Preferably, sooner than later.

She has mastered the art of finding the beauty in the small things that make up the atmosphere around her; why do they not please her on a level deeper than aesthetics? Her life is an exhilarating, interminable unfolding; why is there an urgency to discover it all in a day's work?

I was never one who was able to find satisfaction in banal tasks, like a job or school. I was never good at living my life for myself... and I flat-out fail when it comes to applying meaning to a life without love... for as grateful as I am for the opportunities hard work has afforded me, they do not make me feel alive inside. They do not define who I am. They do not embody my heart. They are merely mundane chores...
... but they are also important pieces, lessons + what not, that will add a very, rare beauty to the final product. They are molding me in to something stronger, someone better... so when the dust finally settles, my reflection will not be one full of regrets + could-have-beens but that of a girl who stepped outside her comfort zone and found a utopia, where every wish her heart ever clamored for came true. A perfect castle in the sky hallmarked by its imperfections.

It's easy to lose sight of this bigger picture when the feeling of temporary permeates the presence so much that it begins to cloud my periphery... but a weekend escape to the vineyards with good girlfriends is exactly the solidarity that I needed to bring my life back in to perspective.

The day could not have been more perfect. Big, beautiful blue skies with rays of sunshine peeking through every tree branch, hollow-post mill and front porch lattice. There was a breeze cool enough to allow you to wear boots + tights + scarves but brisk enough to remind you that it is January and you are one of the lucky ones soaking up sunshine.

We ate brunch at a pancake house + much later, returned for an Italian dinner in Solvang. We traversed through wine country all afternoon, stopping at two different wineries to shmooze with sommeliers of our vintage before heading to my absolute favourite place - Los Olivos.

I'm not sure if it was the local wine perfectly paired with my favourite thing in the entire world... cupcakes! by {enjoy}... or the free tasting by the adorable grandson of the family-owned label, Sarloos & Sons, or the oil + balsamic tasting by the olive oil enthusiast who reminded us of our grandma{s} but when in this quaint one-street town, I die.

It was an absolute perfect weekend. One in which I repeatedly thought to myself: I seriously love my life:::Life doesn't get any better than this:::This is what they mean by actually live each day:::I am exactly where I need to be:::Livingthedream.

I cried yesterday... an ironic "good cry" that I have not endured in a long while... What started as a few tears streaming down my face quickly escalated in to an unfurling of my heart right on to the pavement on the corner of Greenwood and 65th. While it was painful + prompted me to make a rash decision {Read: buy an overpriced striped cowl scarf}, when I returned to my senses, it felt incredible... to know that my heart has found its beat again, one of the reckless + wild abandon variety... with all of its entirety, naturally.
In a habitual text to my bestie whenever I am reduced to tears, she simply replied, "Why does it make you cry?" And after a long conversation in which I threw out every vulnerability that rose to the surface to make this good cry a purifying great cry, I made peace with my predicament realizing that it should not make me cry... no matter how much it scares me. It could be just as exciting as it is scary if I could learn to throw caution to the wind + let it unfold in the exact pattern that it is meant to. No matter what direction, whether it be hit the ground running or fly over the moon, it would be worth it to give it a chance.
As I watched LA get swallowed up in a cloud of smog Monday morning, I made a conscious effort from the sky to bottle up that incredible feeling of contentment + save it for moments like yesterday when the unknowns of my current every day catalyze a fury of angst + I forget that I'm okay. I forget that I am strong + confident + worth it. I forget that being far from home is only temporary + this next year will fly by.

I forget that I have my entire life to get to where I am going and at twenty-five, my life has not only superseded where I need it to be... but it is exactly where I want it to be.

And that is reason enough to uncork my contentment + celebrate.

much-to-celebrate Monday

Every Monday after I write this post, I think to myself What ever am I going to celebrate next week?! I spend my entire week celebrating the exciting new opportunities each day brings living for the moment & staying in the present making sure to not take any ray of sunshine for granted... certain that the next week will never top the last... but then the next week comes & there a cajillion more fabulous things to celebrate & I start this incredible circle of a {wondrous} life all over again! =) Life is good... so, so good.

I'm celebrating the afternoon showers that permeate southwest Florida this time of year... sweet sunshine all day and then like clockwork around 5:00, the dark clouds roll in, the skies open up and a fabulous rainstorm comes down! Yesterday, I got caught in the rain on my long-run-Sunday and it was the most refreshing finish to my long miler. Today, I laid silent + still in the yoga studio listening to the pitter-patter of raindrops on the tin roof; occasionally a clap of thunder, seemingly perfectly choreographed, would cue the next position change. I absolutely love the curling-up-on-the-couch-with-a-hot-cuppa-tea-kinda-rain the most. I can't wait for those May flowers you promise me, April showers but for now, I'm enjoying the amount of use I'm getting out of my Wellies splashing in the puddles you create daily!
Photobucket
I'm celebrating that tomorrow I am getting my hair cut and coloured for the LAST time as a blonde! Blondes really do have more fun but I'm thinking this grad student is going to need to get serious with her studies & coupled with my new pair of Rx specs, becoming a brunette again in the Fall will be the perfect I'm-a-hardcore-graduate-student ensemble!

I'm celebrating that I will reach my 700th blog post this week!! 700!! That is insane {like bat-shit crazy}. I'm not fashionable {my wardrobe spends more time serving as carpet & "clothes mountains" & filling a huge void as the one that sleeps next to me... than as put-together "outfits"}. I don't have a husband {although I have an entire wedding planned}. I rarely ever write about my career {albeit it's a fabulous one}. I don't have kids {but check back in 10 years & I promise I'll have four of them}. I don't own an ETSY shop {although I have made a craft out of shopping on Etsy}. What the hell do I write about seven hundred times over?
Photobucket
I'm celebrating that I'm 2/3 through my first travel assignment and I am still ABSOLUTELY loving it! There is something just so fabulous about relishing in all the perks of nursing and not being responsible for the politics of the job... I'm celebrating that I will more than likely find out where my next assignment is this week... and I'm thinking the West Coast is screaming my name! San Fran, anyone?
Photobucket
I'm celebrating that this weekend I will be loving + kissing + squishing on my favourite little girl in the entire world + spend time with her mama who just so happens to be my favourite sista! I might even get to see my Mama, too which would just make my fickle heart so happy! Speaking of happy hearts, I'm celebrating how over-the-moon happy my heart is in this moment. Nothing so undefined has made this much {non}sense in a long time but I kinda like it that one-day-at-a-time way...

Oh, happy heart!

Bon Lundi, les amis et la famille!!

much-to-celebrate-monday: Seattle style

Photobucket
Photobucket
Oh. My. Word. This week's celebration is SO BIG that I started celebrating, Seattle-style, last Friday at approximately 11am PST...which lasted welllll in to MONDAY (when I started writing this post!)... and I don't plan on stopping the celebration any time in the foreseen future {Read: Jimmy Buffett concert Saturday with Kara & Kelley!!}...
Photobucket
I'm celebrating that the instant I stepped foot on University of Washington's AMAZING historic campus I knew it would be where I would be going to school this Fall Summer!! They are allowing me to start in June... and finish next August! =) I'm going to be a Husky! {Cue purple & gold confetti shower!}
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
I'm celebrating that Carly knew exactly what I would want to do to celebrate this incredible {bright, glittery, yellow, cobblestone} road I'm heading down: beer & pizza & root beer floats!  {Cue smiling heart.}
Photobucket
Photobucket
After a little afternoon Space Needle Site-seeing, we headed to Nordstrom to pick up the "essential wardrobe piece" of a Seattleite: HUNTER RAIN BOOTS! {Cue splashing in puddles!}
Photobucket
It was our last night in the Emerald City so we went all out with a celebratory bottle of bubbly {Sparkling Reisling, that is!} & a lovely dinner at the schmancy Wild Ginger {yumm! singing fish satay!}
Photobucket
... before heading over to The Crocodile {a bar where grunge originated} to listen to a Weezer cover band whose name was actually Teezer but a misprint on the flyer read Tweezer, which is just hilarious. {Cue sticking out like a sore thumb in a crowd of Kurt Cobain wannabes... but secretly loving every minute of it.}
Photobucket
I sadly departed at midnight Friday night back to Florida but I am celebrating in the sunshine that I will be back in the very near future!! =) {Cue crackin' open books, replacing balanced meals with tubes of cookie dough, pulling all-nighters studying, consuming incessant amounts of caffeine & merrily, kissing my social life good-bye until next summer!}

Yahooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

much-to-celebrate-monday: happy-go-lucky edition.

My plane home is 2 3 hours canceled kind of delayed due to this balmy weather and while the rain may be taking precious hours off the amount of beauty sleep I will receive tonight (getting home at approximately 1am and up for work a painfully few 4 hours later tomorrow at 3:30p.m...) I'm not going to let it rain on my much-to-celebrate-monday parade! Not an optimist's chance... I just ordered myself an extra tall blue moon in this here airport and am utilizing these hours I didn't think I'd get today to blog!  =)
First and foremost, can I tell you how excited I am for Britney Spears new album to drop tomorrow?? THIS video was taken by my dear friend, Biddy, in Vegas 2 years ago almost to the date when him & I saw B. Spears perform at the MGM in Vegas! I was so excited I could hardly contain myself... as evidence by my daft giggling + insane HAIR ... and he recorded the video to prove it/let me never forget it! But the shiny silver lining to the huge black rain cloud that is encumbering the entire state of Florida (and making me question whether I will be making it home tonight!  Question answered! Officially grounded.) is that I will still be awake tonight when my pre-ordered CD is uploaded to my iTunes at midnight. Winning!!
Photobucket
Can I get a fist pump for my sexy wedding date this weekend?? Not only is it reason enough to celebrate getting to see this beautiful woman for four fabulous days but I'm celebrating the fact that this is the first time in my entire life that it didn't feel like an eternity since the last time I saw her! I have gotten to spend so much time with Grams these past few months she almost could be considered a part of my "everyday life"!! Good night!!
Photobucket
And can we talk about how happy + lucky I feel... to live my life?? Can we talk about how lucky I am to be going to GRAD SCHOOL in the fall?!! Can I tell you that I am so happy I could just cartwheel for receiving a SECOND acceptance letter last week!? I swear I am having deja vu as 2 weeks ago when I spent my weekend in Knoxville with Reese + Kara + Creed, I was celebrating my acceptance in to Vanderbilt University and this weekend: University of Washington! (Read: the #1 nursing school in the country!!!) What's a happy-go-lucky but terribly {indecisive} girl to do??
Photobucket
{double chin alert}
I guess there's only one thing to do... hop on the next flight to Seattle and check out my prospective future alma mater... of a MASTERS DEGREE... and hope that my answer lies in the copious amounts of coffee shops + opportunities to wear Wellingtons that Seattle offers!! =) Ohmyword. Although I have only 13 days to decide where... I am really actually going to have 3 new + awesome letters behind my name next year: J. Kirk, RN, BSN, NNP .... So, so celebrating how much I LOVE the sound of that!!  =)
Photobucket
Isn't celebrating the absolute best way to start each new week? Only thing better is getting to celebrate with my favourite little monkey today!! Reese is most definitely celebrating, too... by sitting up all by herself!!  & you better believe there are more pictures to follow of her + that ridiculously cute beanie!!

a celebration of acceptance.

While I am equally spending today celebratin' how excited I am for The Bachelor (Kara, I loathe you for getting me addicted to reality-TV-at-its-finest-worst + that now I secretly aspire to be the next Bachelorette!) season finale that is on tonight ... & that its my roommates' THREE YEAR anniversary today (yaay for y'all! Have I mentioned how much I just love meg+david?)... & being able to buy gender-specific coloured clothing for my preggo bestie because she found out what combination of X's and Y's she will be welcoming in to the world come August (and let me in on her little secret!)... & that the feeling of spring break has permeated South Tampa's streets...& the weather... ya, its 75 degrees again today! & I'm headed to the beach... in a bikini + cowboy hat. =)... but mostly I'm celebrating a little letter I received in the mail last week:
Photobucket
     {How chubby are my fingers?!}

Dear Ms. Kirk,
It's official. You're going to be a Master!
Love,
Vanderbilt --- an SEC school, 2.5 hours from my sister/Reese, located in a kickass city with a program that will allow me to be an NNP next summer!! =)

Cue fireworks, champagne popping, + {cup}cake cutting!!

Life just keeps getting better + better. I actually found out a few weeks ago when I just so happened to be in Nashville + just so happened to stop by the nursing school office where my file just so happened to be sitting on the admissions council's desk when I learned I just so happened to get in...
The administrator said it so nonchalantly... "Oh, what's your name? Your files right in front of me. Ya, you were accepted, young lady!"... that I almost didn't believe it until Carly called me back: "You were accepted in to Vandy?! Shut the f*ck up!" ... and it was those four sweet congratulatory words that confirmed that this was JUST SO HUGE! But I haven't spoken much about it because I really have kinda been in total disbelief/not 100% positive that is where I would be going but my official letter arrived last week and its real, baby! I'm going to be a Master!!! I can hardly wait to go lab coat shopping!! =)

Oh, much-to-celebrate-Monday! I'm just so happy you're here + filled to the brim with goodness! =)

much-to-celebrate-monday: thursday edition.

I'm writing this in a thunderstorm. Its a full-on downpour outside + while I hope the rain stops before I drive South this afternoon, I am absolutely loving waking up to Mother Nature + the pitter-patter of raindrops on my window. Accompanied by the occasional crack of lightning not far off in the distance, this rain shower is a blissful reminder of the temperature outside... warm enough to rain (Read: Not cold enough to snow!) In addition to the weather in Southwest Florida, there's so much to celebrate this week it just makes me want to go dancing in the streets... even if its raining!
I am celebrating Carly's fifteen seconds of fame on Tosh.0 this week. So proud of you + all the awesomeness you exude every day in the form of raunchy blog posts. Love you, lifewife! =)
I am celebrating getting to see my sweet baby Reese in T minus seven hours. I think my heart might explode when I land back in Tennessee this afternoon + squish those little rolls. My weekend away starts today and after standing for 12 hours straight the last 3 days, my tired, achey feet are excited that you, my dear weekend, are here + are full of put-your-feet-up opportunities!
I am celebrating my new roommates. They. are. awesome. Saturday nights filled of delishi sushi + Balderdash? Yes, please.
I am celebrating finding the energy + enthusiasm to commit to a half marathon that is twelve weeks away! I am celebrating its location: San Diego, CA. I cannot wait to run along the Pacific Ocean rockin' out to the live music at every mile. Best part is... I'll be running it with my besties because they have committed, too.
I'm celebrating life in South Tampa. Running routes along Bayshore. A Target on top of a Whole Foods.  Yoga + pilates studios. Starbucks within walking distance. Afternoons watching live music in Ybor City. Our neighborhood cats, Cookies + Cream. Anthropologie. Sand-covered toes + yacht clubs. A street lined with sushi restaurants + great bars... ahhh, Palma Ceia: my quaint little corner of the world.
Oh, happy weekend! =)

much-to-celebrate-monday.

I have two weeks worth of celebrating to do (last Monday I was not in the celebrating mood) so this post got a little bit long + the pictures are a little bit random but I kinda like it that way.

First + foremost, I am celebrating the life of my ninety-four-year-old great-great aunt that passed away yesterday. She was the sharpest old lady I have ever known and I'm so sad that she is gone but I find comfort in knowing she's happy in her heaven playing bridge with her sisters.
Photobucket
I am celebrating that this was the view I took in as I sipped my morning coffee, read USA Today's review of the Grammys + finished the crossword puzzle (its monday; it was easy).
Photobucket
I am celebrating the sunshine + the warmth of its rays as it graces my skin; an invigorating feeling that is long overdue. My suntanned toes are celebrating the fact that they had their first pedicure of the new year and are loving getting to breathe in flip flops again.
Photobucket
& of course, I am celebrating with the pretty little girl I love most. We are celebrating how great our week is going to be following a really awesome weekend with old friends. It's Reese + I's last week together "just us" but let's not talk about it because I don't know how I'm ever going to part with my new best friend who has literally been attached to my hip the last 2 months. Cue waterworks.
Photobucket
We are celebrating not one but two job offers I received this week in not one but two awesome cities and the potential of not one but two old roommates becoming my roommates again!!!
Photobucket
We are celebrating how on my run today I saw Bambi + his mom.. yes! she's ALIVE but more on that another time... because that is monumental (or maybe just mental?) + it deserves its own post.
Photobucket
We are celebrating the incredible progress a former patient of mine is making, breathing on his own, defying every odd + truly healing in a miraculous way. I had the honour of taking care of him in my final days in the Tundra and he (and his beautiful parents) touched my heart in a way that has changed me. Changed my opinion on the power of prayer. Changed the way in which I view the world. Made me believe in the existence of angels, here on Earth. I met one. His name is Gideon + you can read about his story here + here... be sure to watch the video on CTV's website... it will make you believe, too.

Have a fabulous week, friends + CELEBRATE life; you've only got one.
