crossing paths with Katie.

My life keeps crossing paths with my great friend, Katie + it makes my heart so happy every time!
Photobucket
A little over 2 years ago, her sweet daughter, Kylie, spent 2 months in the same NICU Christopher did nearly 10 years ago (ohmagosh.. has really a decade gone by?!) 2 summers ago we ran in to each other in the Minneapolis airport. Later that same year, I randomly happened upon her adorable little military life in Albuquerque, New Mexico... and on Thursday, our paths crossed again in the new air force base she calls home: Valdosta, GA.

Happy! Healthy! and Stunningly beautiful, Kylie is a total crack-up! She has a personality much like her Mama's + I love it! =)

It was the halfway point between Knoxville + Orlando and it worked out perfectly to break up the drive by a fabulous slumber party with my favorite duo!! Thursday night, we arrived rather late which only meant we stayed up even later eating freshly baked cookies + catching up on our lives. Friday we stayed in our pj's til 1:00 eating cinnamon rolls and testing the waters with Kylie having a new baby in her house. Katie is expecting a new addition to her family in July and tomorrow they find out what they are having!! =) So excited for Gorski Baby #2!!

**I absolutely LOVE this photo. That adoring look. That dribble of drool. That innocent pull on Kylie's hair.**

Have you ever tried taking a picture of two teeny-tinys in their footies? Next-to-impossible.

Kylie is going to make a great big sister!! She kept giving Reese her pacifier back and saying "Hi Baby!" It was so adorable to see the two of them together!

We changed out of our pajamas to go get lunch before we got back on the road on Friday. I look as though I probably should of showered as well but none-the-less, it was so fabulous to spend less than twenty-fours with these two!! Thank you for the amazing "Southern" hospitality!

I can't wait for our paths to cross again mostly because I will get to see y'all again but partially because it may mean I know where I am going in my life!

in case you were wondering where I have bean ...

This blogger has bean been on a fabulous vacation in the Windy City (have you bean been following the news?? Windy it was!) but I'm back (in Tennessee +) on my blog!!! =) It's 1:35 in the am and I've bean been singing Christmas carols for the last eight hours through Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, snow, hail, icy roads, etc. I'm excited for all the fun pictures I took the last 7 days and the 5 (and counting!) favorite things I have to post but for now, I am going to sneak downstairs and get a snack (I thought I saw Christmas Crack on the counter!!) and then try (operative word: try!) to get some sleep... but here's a little preview of where I've bean been! (That will never get old to me!)  =)

***B.T.W. - Don't be deceived by the apparent blue skies and sunshine in these photogs ... it's about 10 degrees + I couldn't feel any of my phalanges at this point!... but they do make a pretty awesome backdrop!***

i heart men on skates with sticks.

Carly and I ventured north Saturday night to catch (almost) an entire hockey game when Mitchell and David played each other... we stuck out like sore thumbs in Bakersfield, CA: "Better than Before" ... but it was entertaining none-the-less. I laughed (at the absurdity of the sport), I cried (when a certain someone got into a fight), I got all warm and fuzzy inside (because I can't help it) and I even froze to death (for wearing shorts)... =) Underneath my red coat is this fabulous shirt my ultra cool Auntie Paulette designed all by herself and turned into a little tshirt company ... I stole this picture of Kara and her roommate at a hockey game in Knoxville to show how cute they are!! They are available at menonskateswithsticks.com... AND would make fabulous stocking stuffers so buy one for everyone you know for Christmas this year! That's my suggestion for an economic stimulus plan. =)

phoenix zoo.

Mitch and I had a fabulous day at the zoo with a teammate and his wife. There were so many cute animals but being an impromptu trip to the valley, I forgot my camera charger and it died right after I took this gorgeous tiger's photog.

Vegas Vacation

Overwhelmed with the amount of new places to see, restaurants to taste test, new job to learn, a new city to discover, etc. blogging kinda got put on the back burner when I first got to LA. But I found this draft that was dated 9/13Because life wasn't hectic enough when we first got to Los Angeles, Carly and I spent our first weekend together in Las Vegas. After staying in a hotel for a week desperately searching for an apartment, we unloaded our cars the second we got our keys to our fab apartment, waited for IKEA to deliver my bed (which we proudly assembled upon our return all by ourselves!) and then immediately hopped in the car to make the four hour drive through Death Valley to Vegas. Totally imposing on their annual guy's trip for Jordan's birthday, we met Carly's dad and brother there for the season kick-off of college football. No trip to Vegas would be complete without seeing Cirque du Soleil (we saw Ka! which was awesome!), a magician (Carly got pulled on stage by David Copperfield to help him make a tissue paper rose explode into a real one), and eating incredibly delicious dinners before hitting the Strip at night. Look, it's Donny & Marie!

wildlife.

One of my favorite parts of our trip over (and down) to LA was all the different wildlife we encountered. We saw pheasants and antelope down through the Dakotas. While looking at Mount Rushmore, there were mountain goats watching everyone from a cliff above us. From there, we traveled to Devil's Tower, Wyoming when there were rattlesnakes and a prairie dog farm with a million little holes for them to get lost in. I lost track of all the animals we saw when we entered Yellowstone National Park. There were herds of buffalo roaming free. We saw a black bear, a coyote and even osprey in their nest. My favorite animal was a mummy elk with her baby (laying in the grass behind her) drinking in a river. Not much of anything driving through the deserts in Nevada but when we reached the Pacific Coast we saw tons of sea lions in the San Francisco Bay and all down the 10-hour drive along the coast.

The Enchanted Highway

We had only been driving 6 hours when I accidently missed our very first turn off in North Dakota that was to lead us to Mount Rushmore (because my navigator was sleeping with the map tucked under pillow). We were re-routed by the visitor center near Bismark to take a shortcut called the Enchanted Highway. I kid you not this really exists and if you don't stop to take pictures of the landmarks every five miles, it is actually quicker than the major interstate to reach the Black Hills. It was created by Gary Greff in 1989 to bring people to his small community. Inspired by a hay-bale strongman built by a farmer, he created the World's Largest Scrap Metal Sculpture to see if people would stop to see them. There are seven scrap metal sculptures total which include but are not limited to pheasants on the prairie, a family of tin (Tin Ma, Tin Pa and Tin Son), Theodore Roosevelt riding a horse, grasshoppers in a field and geese in flight.
